Commonwealth Academy is an award-winning day school for average to superior students with learning differences or AD/HD. It offers a college prep program for students in grades 6-12, and a grade-level program with reading and math remediation for grades 3-5.
Commonwealth's curriculum is embedded with technology and compensatory strategies to help students confidently succeed in a socially supportive environment. Classes limited to 10 or fewer students, and instruction tailored to different learning styles, backed by state-of-the-art technology, give students the safety they need to take measured academic risks, express their curiosity, and advance their achievement.
Accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, licensed by the State of Virginia to service Specific Learning Disabilities and ADHD and by the District of Columbia, Commonwealth offers a full range of academic classes, including honors courses, as well as graphic and performing arts, social activities, clubs, athletics, and community service. Dr. Susan Johnson, Head of School, received the 2010 Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award and David Roth, Middle School Director and History teacher was awarded the 2009-2010 CHADD Educator of the Year.
